Star Screen Awards 2010

The Nokia 16th annual STAR Screen Awards was  held at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) grounds on Saturday, January 9, 2010.

16th Annual Star Screen Awards: The very first film awards event of the year 2010 is just round the corner.

138 Hindi  films were released in the year 2009. Out of these 21 films have been selected for nominations for awards in various categories.

 Online voting was arranged through  star television website and the winners were decided.

Amitabh Bachchan won the award for best actor for his latest film “Paa”, and Vidya Balan won the best actress award for PAA again.

Best director award was won by Rajkumar Hirani and also shared the best screenplay award with Abhijat Joshi for his film “3 Idiots”.

“3 idiots” won the best film award.

The best female singer award was won by Kavita Sethi for her song “Ek tara” from “Wake Up Sid”, and the best male singer award was won by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for “Aaj din chadeya” from movie “Love Aaj Kal”.

Imitiaz Ali bagged the best story award for “Love Aaj Kal”.

The award for the best performance in a comic role went to Omi Vaidya for “3 Idiots”, while the award for the best actor in a negative role went to Boman Irani for “3 idiots”.

A.R. Rehman won the best music award for “Delhi 6″.

EDGE OF DARKNESS 2010

EDGE OF DARKNESS REVIEW

Based on a British TV miniseries “Edge of Darkness” by Troy Kennedy-Martin. A homicide detective, Thomas Craven, who has just met up with his daughter, Novakovic, almost gets shot but sadly Novakovic took the shot and died. Now, Thomas searches for clues about the murder and founds out about his daughters secrets is full of cover-ups and government collusion.

I did not know that this movie was a remake of the BBC minseries, Edge of Darkness, in till I read the IMDb of the movie. This movie reminds me of “Taken” but since the original came out in 1985, this will hopefully be a good movie. Mel Gibson has been in many great movies and has won many awards and with him in this film, the acting will be great.

I think this movie rather has an interesting plot to it. It gets twisted around with some other stuff which I like about these types of movies. I should check out the BBC version of this movie before it comes out and experience what kind of movie it is and what I’m looking forward in the remake. I think this movie will be worth watching with great actors, a good storyline, and a remake to its original.

DRAG ME TO HELL MOVIE 2009

 

Drag Me To Hell is about a woman, Christine Brown, who looks in a bank working on loans. She is trying to become an assistant manager while competing with another employee, Stu Rubin. She meets this gypsy witch, Mrs. Ganush, to help her with her house but while thinking about competing and making tough decisions, she refuses her request and becomes cursed by Mrs. Ganush. Now, a demon like creature haunts her at night.

 

She tries to get rid of the curse with the help of her boyfriend, Clay Dalton, and fortune teller Rham Jas.

I think the plot seems good if you haven’t seen the movie, but once you see it, it becomes really bad especially some of the action. Most of the movie doesn’t really have horror in it and doesn’t make it scary (Some scary parts are in the trailer.) I really thought this movie would be good but I thought wrong and I wouldn’t recommend seeing this movie.

Dwayne Johnson is “The Tooth Fairy,” also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids.

 

When Derek discourages a youngster’s hopes, he’s sentenced to one week’s hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand. At first, Derek “can’t handle the tooth” – bumbling and stumbling as he tries to furtively wing his way through strangers’ homes…doing what tooth fairies do. But as Derek slowly adapts to his new position, he begins to rediscover his own forgotten dreams.

I respect Dwayne Johnson for making movies about and with kids but I think these kinds movies have to stop. The plot is awfully bad and I can’t believe these types of movies are being made and being seen in theaters. I know this movie is aims towards kids but who would want to watch a movie about a hockey player becoming a tooth fairy?

I hope this movie will be good for kids to watch because I don’t think adults wouldn’t even see this movie all by themselves. To be honest, I think Dwayne Johnson should stick to action movies (The Rundown, The Scorpion King, etc.) since he’s build to do them.

It is a story of his passion for the carrom game that gave him strength to triumph over all those who took the easier path.
